The new year will be here on the East coast is just four short hours.
This is the time of making resolutions which may last several days.
I look at my life daily and realize everything I am grateful for. I journal daily. I express my gratitude, maybe not as frequently as I should, but those people who are important in my life are aware of my gratitude.
We are all susceptible to pain. We don’t ask for it but it’s there. It’s important to pay attention to the pain we experience especially emotional pain. There is so much for us to learn if we simply pay attention. That pain can shape us or we can allow it to break us. The choice is ours.
A word I use frequently both in my personal and professional life is the word mindfulness. We often misuse this word and simply refer to it as awareness. It’s important to identify what we are aware of. Mindfulness is a moment to moment awareness. It is being fully awake. It involves being here is the moments of our lives, without striving or judging.
I don’t give a shit that today is the last day of 2018. The first day of 2019 is full of no more possibilities than any other day.
Today is worth my commitment to be better, to love ourselves and shut the fucking door on yesterday. We change when we are sick and tired of being sick and tired not because we made a resolution.
You don’t have to be a prisoner to yesterday. The choice is yours.
