Don’t take relationships for granted

My cousin posted this photo on Facebook. I reread the caption a few times and each time thought a little harder and felt a little more sad. The statement gave me pause as two coworkers within the last week had the misfortune of losing loved ones. This will happen to us all but down deep we lead our lives as if it won’t happen.

I’m not sure where I first heard this statement. “They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. the truth is you knew exactly what you had. you just didn’t think you were going to lose it.” I’m sure it dad had said this to me when I was an age where it made no sense or it made sense but I arrogantly thought I would be here forever and the thought of losing a friend or family member was nonexistent.

Pay attention to those people in your life who are important. Don’t roll your eyes and think about how busy you are to call or text a friend or to visit that family member in a nursing home. You never know when it’ll be too late.
